We asked our amazing Facebook fans to tell us where they wanted to travel in 2019. They voted in their hundreds and we’re now thrilled to share their choices with you. Find out who makes the top spot and the best things to do on a yacht charter in each region.

10. UK 

In 10th place, we stay at home, here in the beautiful UK. While sailing on a bareboat charter from our base in Hamble Marina, make sure you see and do the following:

  • Visit the famous Needles, two huge pinnacles of rock sitting off Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight’s western coast
  • Sail east and discover historic Portsmouth, home to the amazing HMS Victory and Henry VIII’s flagship, the Mary Rose
  • Spend the day in Great Yarmouth and anchor in Totland Bay before dining at Salty’s Restaurant, a must for seafood lovers
  • Spend the day sailing leisurely in the Solent, where your view shore will be met by Royal Navy warships, tall towers and beautiful coastline
  • Search for the seals along the Newtown River, a short distance from Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

9. Croatia


In ninth place is Croatia, one of our favourites here at Dream Yacht Charter. With more than 1,200 islands dotted throughout the Adriatic Sea, a bareboat yacht charter holiday to Croatia is one of the most delightful sailing experiences in Europe. Here’s our guide on the top five things to do there:

  • Snorkel the azure waters and underwater cities housing thousands of species of fish and coral
  • Visit Dubrovnik and see the famous red rooftops that line the shore
  • Head to Zadar with its colourful coastline and even more colourful history!

8. The USA

A quick nip over the pond will take you to the eighth top destination to visit in 2019. We have two bases in the Atlantic Ocean – Annapolis and Fort Lauderdale. Make sure you try these attractions while there:

  • Sail along the largest estuary in the US, Chesapeake Bay, with its protected waters, great anchorages and gorgeous natural scenery
  • Visit one of Annapolis’s famous crab houses and try the local delicacy
  • Discover the exciting sights and sounds of South Beach, just a day’s sail away from Fort Lauderdale
  • Sail to the beautiful Florida Keys and moor overnight at Marathon Marina, the ‘Crown Jewel of the Florida Keys’
  • Enjoy a bareboat charter where you can explore the very best of the area

7. Grenada, Italy and France 

A three way tie for seventh place, we head to the Caribbean for the first stop in seventh position, to the beautiful island of Grenada, the gateway to the Grenadines. Here’s our list of the best things to see and do there when on a bareboat yacht charter:

  • Head to Grand Anse Beach, one of the most luxurious beaches in the world for a spot of sunbathing
  • Explore the underwater sculpture park at Molinere Beausejour Marine Protected Area which exhibits 65            specialist sculptures
  • Visit the Grand Etang National Park, where you can see the magnificent waterfalls and the endangered                Mona Monkeys

Secondly, fans voted for some traditional European charm in fabulous Italy! A temperate climate and delicious cuisine make sailing Italy a tasty treat:

  • Marvel at the well-preserved archaeological site of Pompeii, a once thriving city, devastated by an eruption from Mount Vesuvius in 79AD
  • Discover Pontine and the Phlegraean islands – created by underwater volcano eruptions
  • Sail on a bareboat charter to La Maddalena archipelago off the north of Sardinia

You voted France as the final of the three destinations in seventh position. France offers amazing wind systems such as the Mistral, to entice and thrill sailors in both the Atlantic and Mediterranean oceans:

  • In the north of France, visit Brittany, where sailors are provided with quiet anchorages, cute little villages          and excellent food
  • Visit the lighthouses and magnificent cliffs that sit majestically on the coastline of Brittany on the Cap                Frehel
  • In the south, head to the aristocratic Cote d’Azur on the French Riviera, where you’ll experience warmer            weather and clear cobalt water – fabulous for snorkelling and diving
  • Dine in one of the Cote d’Azur’s first class restaurants where, if you’re lucky, you might spot a celeb or two
  • Embark on a bareboat charter where you can experience the very best of the Cote d’Azur and Brittany

6. Tahiti


We head to the heart of the South Pacific for sixth place, to the beautiful island of Tahiti. Here’s our list the top things to do when sailing the French Polynesia on a yacht charter:

  • Seek out the hundreds of species of fish, dolphins, turtles and more while snorkelling and diving on a                  sailing package in Tahiti
  • Visit the Anapa Pearl Farm and see how the oysters are bred and pearls cultivated before choosing one to            take home with you
  • Sail to Motu Topua where you can spend the day swimming and snorkelling in pure paradise
  • Dine at Bloody Mary’s on Bora Bora, one of the archipelago’s most luxurious eateries
  • Meet the locals in the typical friendly Polynesian village of Fare in Huahine before dining in one of the boutique-style restaurants

5. St. Lucia

Voted by you as the fifth most favourable destination to visit in 2019, St. Lucia is ideal for a sailing holiday, with wonderfully calm trade winds and fabulous snorkelling in beautiful, azure waters:

  • Embark on a bareboat yacht charter to St. Lucia and head to Soufriere, where you can see the famous Pitons
  • Dive the 400ft Petit Piton Wall
  • Sail to Pigeon Island, home to Fort Rodney, used to spy on French ships approaching from Martinique during the 18th century
  • Visit Castries, the capital of the island, and spend the day exploring the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Castries, and Vigie Beach, a protected, white sandy beach perfect for relaxing
  • Make sure you try some traditional St. Lucian cuisine and grab some ‘St Lucia lambi’, a flavoursome dish made with conch

4. Greece

In fourth place, our Facebook fans voted for  Greece. Sailors can sail from one of eight exciting bases when on a bareboat holiday to Greece. Here’s our top five things to see and do;

  • Take in the wealth of ancient legacies and architecture in Athens including the Pantheon on the Athenian Acropolis
  • In the Dodecanese, visit the historical island of Rhodes, with its famous Acropolis in Lindos
  • Visit the Sporades, home to the Mediterranean monk seal. Snorkelling and diving are perfect here, thanks to the sapphire blue waters and abundant sea life
  • See the infamous blue domes and white buildings on the island of Santorini in the Cyclades
  • Head to shipwreck beach in Zakynthos for a picture perfect day of  relaxing, swimming and diving the beautiful clear blue seas

3. Seychelles, British Virgin Islands and the Maldives

A three-country tie for the third position takes us to the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean to the Seychelles, British Virgin Islands and the Maldives.

Head to the Seychelles and see:

  • Visit the Curieuse Marine National Park in Praslin where you’ll meet the giant Aldabra tortoises
  • Go snorkelling at the Ile Coco Marine National Park
  • Come face to face with whale sharks at Baie Ternay Marine National Park

Next comes the British Virgin Islands, where you should:

  • Visit Willy T’s, a floating restaurant and bar that has recently been rehomed in Grand Harbour on Peter Island following restoration
  • Head to Jost Van Dyke Island and have a ‘Painkiller’ at the Soggy Dollar bar
  • If you visit the BVIs at the end of November, make sure you go to Anegada where you’ll be able to take part in the annual lobster festival, where the sizes of some of the crustaceans are nothing less the ‘claw’ dropping!

Lastly, heading back to the Indian Ocean, and in the final third spot, the Maldives sit across the equator and are made up of more than 1,200 tiny islands and reefs in 26 atolls, where you can see:

  • Visit Banana Reef to swim with manta rays
  • Head to Maafushi in the Kaafu Atoll and try your hand at the many water sports on offer
  • Sail to Omadhoo Island’s fishing village and see the attractive white and green houses where the locals will happily greet you with a smile

One of our brand new bases for 2019, Belize reached second place on our countdown and the base at Robert’s Grove Marina in Placencia is the ideal place to charter a bareboat yacht:

  • Home to the world’s second largest barrier reef, Belize offers fantastic snorkelling and scuba diving
  •       Head to Turneffe Atoll and trace the infamous pirate legend, Blackbeard
  •       Moor at Coco Plum Cay and snorkel with barracudas, eagle rays and starfish
  •       Visit Lighthouse Reef, home of the world famous ‘Blue Sinkhole’, a creepy phenomenon. that is home to              20ft stalactites and numerous shipwrecks
  •       Try night snorkelling at Hatchet Cay, where you’ll submerge yourself under the lights of the pier and go in          search of fish and octopus.

1. Bahamas

Finally, your number one destination where you would like to travel  in 2019 is the islands of the Bahamas! Chartering a yacht with us gives you two options to visit the Bahamas – the Exumas and the Abacos:

  • Swim with the pigs at Big Major Cay in the Exumas
  • Hike up Boo Boo Hill in the Exumas, an area cloaked in mystery and legend and see the natural blow holes

  • See the candy-striped lighthouse at Elbow Cay in Abacos
