- How well will my yacht be well maintained?
The team at your yachts base will be responsible for the upkeep of your yacht . Typically Dream run smaller than average charter bases where all the staff are familiar with your yacht, and for that matter you as an Owner. We aim for preventative maintenance with regular servicing and checks at set intervals which include an annual haul out for antifouling, polishing and under water work. Please ask to see our detailed maintenance schedules.
- What are my choices at the end of the contract?
In the final year of the agreement we will contact you to discuss your future plans. You may collect your yacht, sail her away and use her privately. In this case your yacht will have a thorough phase out from the Dream fleet and be handed over with full inventory, in sail away condition. Please ask to see a copy of our detailed Phase out manual where we define exactly the end of charter hand over condition of your yacht.
Alternatively you may wish to join the growing number of repeat Owners who have continued their partnership with Dream by simply trading in their yacht and starting a new contract.
If you plan to sell at the end of the agreement, we can assist you with the sale through our successful Dream Yacht brokerage. We would recommend that you start marketing your yacht approximately 6 months before the contract end with a view to finding a client who can take immediate hand over at the end of your agreement with us.
- Do I have to pay VAT?
You do not have to pay VAT on a Dream yacht at the time or purchase if it is operated outside the EU eg. Turkey, Caribbean etc. or if you have joined us with a Dream Partnership or Dream Easy contract. A VAT payment will only occur if you decide to import the vessel back into Europe at the end of the ownership contract. VAT is the owners responsibility and is payable to the EU country of importation and based on the yachts depreciated value (approx.. 50% of original purchase price).
Yachts operating in Spain, France, Croatia and Greece are already in the EU. Yachts in these locations on Guaranteed income contracts DO require VAT payment up front, unless purchased through a company. At the end of the Dream Easy & Partnership programmes in EU countries, you would only be required to make a VAT payment upon taking title to the yacht, again on the depreciated value. If you plan to export the yacht immediately from the EU and can prove shore based non EU residency, VAT may not be charged.
- What happens if I can’t use all my sailing time?
Your close family (spouse, sons and daughters) or your purchase partners can take advantage of the Owner privileges even if you are not on board. Every year, 2 weeks in Low season may be given to friends, donated or even sold if you wish. These weeks are referred to as Guest use.
- Can I make extra money from the Standard Programmes?
As mentioned above, you can sell up to 2 weeks of Low season use each year. As a Dream owner, you are our very best advertisement and will receive incentives if you refer a charter or yacht sales customer to us. (15% on a charter sale, 1% on a yacht sale).
- Does it matter where my yacht is based?
Unless you have a requirement to have your yacht somewhere specific at the end of the agreement, it doesn’t matter too much with the Dream Ownership programmes. As your revenue is guaranteed and you have no operating expenses, it really is hassle free ownership with access to a vast choice of tremendous value worldwide cruising.
- Which is the best value Dream Ownership programme to go for?
It’s very subjective but as can be seen from the financial examples, the Standard programmes are all designed to achieve the same outcome for similar prices. The decision as to which programme is best for you rests with your own financial situation and also the locations/yacht availability we have available for sale in any particular year.
Valid for all contracts except Dream Performance
